Audemars Piguet Exhibition: Why Luxury Watch Collectors Are Obsessed

I recently visited the “House of Wonders” exhibition currently being held in Ginza.

Following the Patek Philippe exhibition in 2023 and the Vacheron Constantin exhibition in 2025, Audemars Piguet has finally completed what many collectors consider the final piece among the world’s “Big Three” watch exhibitions.

Many readers may already remember the extraordinary global queues created by Royal Pop, Audemars Piguet’s recent collaboration with Swatch. Few brands today generate this level of excitement outside of product launches — which raises an interesting question: why does Audemars Piguet create such strong emotional engagement?

Audemars Piguet and the Architecture of Brand Immersion

The first thing that struck me was that this was not simply an exhibition about watches.

Instead, it felt like entering a carefully designed universe built around the brand itself.

From the moment visitors enter, the exhibition uses green-toned spaces, storytelling, and immersive design to create a coherent luxury narrative.

  • The history of the founding families
  • Generations of craftsmen and watchmakers
  • Masterpieces and immersive VR experiences

These are not isolated pieces of content.

They are connected components of a single story.

What Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, and Audemars Piguet Share

Having previously visited both Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin exhibitions, one common pattern became increasingly clear.

History × Craftsmanship × Scarcity

This formula appears repeatedly across the world’s leading watch maisons.

Despite differences in products and heritage, the messages remain surprisingly similar:

• Centuries of history
* Family ownership and craftsmanship
* Pursuit of technical complexity
* Scarcity through controlled production

This is not accidental.

It is a rational strategy for maintaining long-term luxury brand equity.

Why Do People Become Obsessed With Luxury Watches?

In the later sections of the exhibition, visitors encounter calibers, components, technical demonstrations, and immersive VR experiences.

What fascinated me was how these experiences eventually connect to astronomy, space, and calendars.

Vacheron Constantin’s exhibition reached similar territory through celestial projections and astronomical themes.

At the level of grand complications, watches stop being simple timekeeping instruments.

Consumers are ultimately buying philosophy and storytelling.

This may explain why ultra-high-end watches maintain emotional value far beyond their mechanical functions.

A CPA Perspective: Why Can Luxury Watches Sustain Such High Prices?

From a finance and accounting perspective, luxury watch brands are fascinating business models.

Unlike many consumer industries, they are often able to maintain strong margins without participating in price competition.

The underlying drivers include:

• Supply constraints
* Brand equity
* Scarcity design
* Community building
* Historical storytelling

In other words, luxury watch brands create business models where lowering prices becomes unnecessary.

If you have not visited the exhibition yet, it may be worth experiencing it yourself.

Not simply to see watches — but to understand how luxury creates obsession.
