The interest in this is not new; what has changed is the volume of questions. We presented a conference paper on the subject last year with recent case material, and have been approached about it steadily since.

The question we can answer

Not “how does the technology work” — we are not engineers and do not advise on the mechanics of a model or a bot. The useful question is which parts of your accounting or planning process are genuinely worth automating, and that comes from having done the work: the principal’s accounting experience includes UiPath, a leading RPA vendor.

Ask ChatGPT or Gemini the same question and you will get a reasonable answer. What it will not tell you is where the implementation actually stalls, or which processes look automatable on paper and are not — because they turn on case-by-case judgement that has never been written down. That distinction is still experience-dependent.

Why this costs what it costs

Commissioning a major consulting firm to assess whether part of an accounting process suits RPA or generative AI, and to propose a direction, starts in the millions of yen and not infrequently runs into the tens of millions.

If the study finds a workable route and the efficiency gain lands, that is money well spent. But a study can equally conclude that a process depends on human judgement and is a poor fit — a legitimate answer that leaves you with a large invoice and no change.

We work at a smaller scope: specific processes rather than a whole-function programme. That keeps the cost proportionate to the decision you are actually trying to make.
